WHAT IS MANLY2015?

Manly 2015 is a program of urban renewal projects to future-proof Manly and ensure we maintain and enhance our village feel. 

 IS MANLY 2015 FINANCIALLY VIABLE?

Yes it is. Independent Global Consultants, KPMG have concluded that the Oval Carpark is affordable. The Oval carpark will be paid for from the sale of the existing Whistler Street Carpark and from parking revenue. The public domain improvements for streetscapes in Manly2015 will be paid for and funded over a period of years from existing Town Centre Improvement Local Rate. The proposed stormwater detention facility next to the Manly Oval Car Park will be financed from the existing stormwater levy.

 WILL MY RATES GO UP BECAUSE OF MANLY2015

 No - Manly Council will not seek to introduce any special rates to fund Manly 2015.

 WILL I STILL HAVE TWO HOURS FREE PARKING?

 Yes - Council has committed to continuing to provide 2 hours free parking at all Council parking stations.

 IS MANLY2015 GOOD FOR BUSINESS AND THE LOCAL ECONOMY?

Yes. A study completed by HillPDA concludes that the net increase in parking in Manly2015 Masterplan could attract an additional $15m of retail expenditure per annum to the Manly Town Centre to the benefit of existing businesses. Over a 20 year period this could lead to an increase of close to $300m in 2013 dollars.

HOW DOES IMPROVING STREETSCAPES IMPROVE MY BUSINESS?    

The Manly2015 Masterplan will create intimate and vibrant public places that people will want to explore and meet their friends, which will improve the economic potential of these locations to benefit existing and new businesses.

WHY DO WE NEED A NEW LARGER CAR PARK AND WHY CAN’T WE JUST UPDATE THE CURRENT CAR PARK?

Relocating parking to a larger Manly Oval carpark at Manly's main gateway, will enable Council to realise a walkable Village Centre with vibrant public spaces that support community and village life long into the future. The same outcome cannot be achieved even if the existing carpark can be updated.
